Quality of Life
Welcome to Greene County, land of gently rolling hills, high bluffs and a river valley that blazes with color in the fall. Greene County's history is rich in local lore, historical figures and places, complete with ghosts! Located in west central Illinois, population 13,886 as of the 2010 census, bordered on the west by the Illinois River, Scott and Morgan Counties on the North, Macoupin County on the East and Jersey to the South, Greene County is a wonderful place to live, work and play. Greene County is home to four major municipalities: Carrollton, White Hall, Greenfield, and Roodhouse
with several smaller towns. Greene County has three school districts: Carrollton, Greenfield and North Greene, two business parks, three recreational areas with camping facilities and lakes and lots of little hometown restaurants. A myriad of activities from fishing and camping to paintball fields keep the outdoor minded visitor busy during their stay; while rummaging through antique stores, visiting historical sites or enjoying one of the many events appeals to everyone.
